A man has been charged with murder as enquiries into a fatal collision in Stepney Green continue.

An investigation was launched on Thursday, 6 August after officers were called at 23:15hrs to Aylward Street following reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a car.

The cyclist was taken to hospital where he sadly died on Sunday, 9 August. He has since been named as Chris Powell, 51. His next-of-kin continue to be supported by specialist officers.

Officers arrested a man in connection with the investigation on Thursday, 6 August who was later charged with attempted murder and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, on Tuesday, 11 August the charge was amended to one count of murder.

Parvez Ahmed Rahman, 33 (23.04.1993) of Russia Lane, Bethnal Green appeared at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 12 August where he was formally charged.

He will next appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 28 October.
