1Leisure launches the Isle of Wight’s first digital, pool-based exercise programme

Residents living with joint pain, mobility issues and rehabilitation needs will soon be able to access personalised water-based exercise programmes at two 1Leisure centres.

“Good Boost” is a personalised exercise and rehabilitation programme, delivered through waterproof tablets while the participants are in the pool.

Set to be introduced on September 1, Good Boost uses tablet technology to deliver each individual’s sessions. The innovative health and wellbeing programme is available for 1Leisure Gold One Card members and exercise on referral clients.

After completing a simple onboarding questionnaire, Good Boost’s technology creates a bespoke exercise programme focused on the individual’s health, symptoms and functional ability. The programme then adapts over time to reflect participants’ progress and bespoke changing needs.

Good Boost will be available at 1Leisure Medina and 1Leisure Heights.

Taking place in the pool, Good Boost provides a supportive and accessible way for residents to improve their strength, mobility and confidence while benefiting from the natural support of water.

The programme is suitable for non-swimmers, with sessions taking place in waist to chest-height water, making it an ideal option for those who may feel nervous about exercising or returning to physical activity.

Participants can either self-refer or be referred by their GP or healthcare professional.

Councillor Julie Jones-Evans, chair of the Economy, Regeneration, Transport, and Infrastructure committee, said: “We are delighted to introduce Good Boost to our 1Leisure facilities and offer residents another way to improve their health and wellbeing.

“This innovative programme provides personalised support for people living with joint pain, mobility challenges or those recovering from injury, helping them exercise safely and confidently in a welcoming environment.

“Good Boost will help more residents stay active, independent and connected to their community.

“We are so fortunate on the island to still have a council run leisure service to enable these public health initiatives, enabling residents to keep active and invest in their wellbeing.”

Key benefits of Good Boost include helping participants manage pain through exercise and improving mobility, strength and range of movement.

The exercise also builds confidence and self-esteem, reducing social isolation through regular participation and therefore supporting long-term health and wellbeing.

No previous exercise experience is required, and every programme is tailored to the participant’s individual ability and needs.
