Dame Caroline Dinenage, Member of Parliament for Gosport, has said in a busy Parliamentary debate that “everything’s got worse” with Capita’s administration of the Civil Service Pension Scheme.

The debate in Parliament comes after Capita missed two deadlines set by the Government to improve service delivery by July. Early in September the Government reported that over 1500 cases across the country were over 100 days old, whilst the backlog of MP constituent casework complaints rose from 1500 to 1900 to the nine weeks to July 2026.

Caroline first wrote to the Cabinet Secretary in January 2026 regarding the poor service of Capita. The letter was seen over 1.4 million times on Facebook alone, demonstrating the interest across the country in the issue.

Since then the Government has deployed independent auditors to review Capita’s systems and data integrity and appointed a remedial adviser at Capita’s expense. Despite the awful record the Government awarded Capita a new Department for Work and Pensions contract in February 2026. In July Conservative MP and Shadow Minister Mike Wood asked the Government to ensure the recovered funds from Capita would be diverted into an immediate compensations scheme for those affected.

Speaking in the debate, Caroline said: “Capita made assurances to me that pension areas would be cleared by the end of April and overall service levels restored by June. But they were hollow words. Both targets were missed. In fact, everything’s got worse.”

Caroline went on to explain why she thought that bringing the contract in house was the wrong move, saying: “I suspect my caseworkers are doing a better job than the caseworkers hired by the government who have somehow seen an increase in the number of complaints. I don’t think that bringing this contract in house will make a difference.”

Caroline also suggested that Capita should be barred from winning further Government contracts, a view which was reflected on the Conservative front bench from Charlie Dewhirst MP.
