Have your say on powers to tackle anti-social behaviour in Gosport
Residents, businesses and visitors are being invited to share their views on powers used to help tackle anti-social behaviour in Gosport.
Gosport Borough Council originally introduced The Borough of Gosport and Town Centre Public Spaces Protection Oder (PSPO) in 2017 as one way of addressing behaviours including public drinking and drug-related activity across the Borough. The order also includes measures to tackle anti-social begging in Gosport High Street.
The PSPO gives authorised officers legal powers to address anti-social activity and issue Fixed Penalty Notices of £100 where appropriate. Failure to comply with the order may result in prosecution and upon conviction, a fine of up to £1,000.
Cllr Stevyn Ricketts, Chair of the Council’s Community and Environment Board, said: “Anti-social behaviour has a really negative impact on communities and business. The order we have provides legal powers to tackle this kind of unwanted activity.
“PSPOs remain in force for three years and then need to be renewed. So we want residents, businesses, visitors and others to share their views on the types of behaviour they consider a problem, and any activity they’ve witnesses, so that we can consider renewing and updating our powers.”
