Drug dealer convicted of murdering man in Coxford

A drug dealer who shot an intruder to his home four times has today (27 October) been convicted of murder.

Marcin Buryta phoned police just before 8pm on 11 February, calmly telling them he had shot somebody at his home in Conifer Road, Southampton.

The 32-year-old used a Glock pistol, parts of which had been 3D printed. He had a number of weapons which included two more firearms, a loaded crossbow, a machete, a dagger, knives and knuckle dusters.

A court heard despite officers and paramedics providing aid, Piotr Pruszak, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene just before 8.45pm.

Following the shooting, Buryta continued to send and receive messages relating to the prices of drugs including cocaine and ketamine.

Today at Winchester Crown Court, a jury found Buryta guilty of murder.

As part of this case, he has previously admitted two charges of possessing a firearm, and one count of possessing ammunition with intent.

He will be sentenced on Thursday 29 October.

During the trial, jurors were told Buryta was found guilty of killing a man in his native Poland when he was 19.

It was heard he had stabbed a man while at a friend’s birthday party, subsequently being convicted of causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death.

Buryta told the court he was keeping weapons at his address, for his protection, and claimed he had acted out of fear for his life on the night Mr Pruszak was killed.

Following the verdict, senior investigating officer DCI Clair Trueman said: “We have worked extremely hard to understand what happened in Marcin Buryta’s home on the night of 11 February, and show the jury the kind of person he is.

“Buryta is a man obsessed with weaponry, who didn’t stop with the initial shots he fired that night, instead retrieving further ammunition and shooting again.

“Any loss of life is a tragedy, and my thoughts are with Piotr’s family.

“Violent acts, particularly ones of such a serious nature like this, have no place in our communities. While such violence is rare, it will always be met with a tireless and dedicated investigation by our teams.”
