Local authors to take centre stage at Newbury Library book fair
Book lovers can meet local writers and discover new reads when the Local Author Book Fair returns to Newbury Library on Saturday 14 November.
Following the success of last year’s event, the book fair will take place from 11am to 2pm at Newbury Library, The Wharf, Newbury, RG14 5AU.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet local authors and talk to them about their work. With genres ranging from fantasy, romance and thrillers to military history and poetry, there will be something for a wide range of readers and plenty of opportunities to discover a new favourite.
Authors confirmed to attend include Anita Loughrey, Caroline Kuhtz, Clare Staples, Craig Brown, Helen Saxton, Jose Loureiro, Nick Cennamo-Smith, Sarah Harper, Terence Brick and Tim Jarvis.
Books will be available to buy on the day, with authors happy to personalise copies.
The event is part of the wider programme of activities provided by West Berkshire Libraries to bring people together through reading, learning and culture. More than 37,000 people attended over 3,000 library events during 2025/26, including author talks, creative workshops and community activities.
Councillor Nigel Foot, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure, Sport and Countryside, said: “It’s wonderful to welcome the Local Author Book Fair back to Newbury Library following last year’s successful event. This is a great opportunity to discover the talent we have locally, meet authors face-to-face and perhaps find a new favourite book.”
The library will also be open as usual on the day, giving visitors access to reading and borrowing, public computers, Wi-Fi and printing services. Paid parking is available at the Wharf car park, while the library is also a short walk from Newbury railway station and Newbury town centre.
Visitors don’t need to be library members to attend, but the event is a great opportunity to sign up. Membership of West Berkshire Libraries is free for anyone who lives, works or studies in West Berkshire. Children can join from birth and members can borrow up to 15 books, as well as access free e-books and e-audiobooks.
Residents can find library opening hours, services and further information on the West Berkshire Libraries website, and can follow the library service on Facebook and Instagram at @WBerksLibraries.
