The D-Day Story is one of only 20 museums to receive funding from the Victory 80 – Victory in Europe and Victory over Japan Commemoration Programme.

The ‘Victory in 80 Objects’ project has received £20,000 to bring the items to a wider audience.

The grant was funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and awarded by Museum Development South West with thanks to support from Arts Council England.

The funds will be used to work with the community on a range of creative projects using the stories and images of the 80 objects as a source of inspiration to create art, poetry, film, sculpture, and social media content.

The results of these activities will be displayed online, on social media, at The D-Day Story and Portsmouth Museum.

Councillor Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: This is fantastic news for The D-Day Story, and we are pleased to have been selected. The grant will provide creative opportunities to further inspire visitors through a variety of imaginative activities. I’m excited to see the innovative work that participants will create.

Victory in 80 Objects’ is a book and online exhibition, which remembers the heroism and sacrifices of those who were involved by telling the story of fascinating objects connected with the conflict. It’s been created by The D-Day Story museum, run by Portsmouth City Council, in collaboration with five other military museums in the UK.

Each of the museums involved with ‘Victory in 80 Objects’ have selected objects from their collections that help tell the story of Second World War.
