Gosport cricketers ‘delighted’ with new nets

Cricket in Gosport has been giving a boost with newly refurbished training nets at Privett Park.

Gosport Borough Council carried out the work to replace all the netting and install a new professional grade, artificial surface.

The nets are used by Gosport Borough Cricket Club, who run adult men’s and women’s teams as well as youth teams of all ages for boys and girls. The facility is also used by cricketers across the borough.

Cricket club Secretary and 3rd Team Captain Pete Robson said: The council has done an excellent job and the practice facility is once again fit for purpose and safe. We are delighted.

The facility now boasts a high-quality woven cricket surface, divided into two net lanes for multi-use, with an impact-absorbing GeoPad underlay. New batting screens have been fitted and the netting has an anti-vermin skirt to stop animals damaging the netting.

Gosport Borough Council leader Cllr Peter Chegwyn said: Cricket is really popular in Gosport and players of all ages now have a great place to train and hone their skills.

“We know how important good facilities are, and this work is part of the council’s huge investment of more than £1m in sport and leisure right across the borough.
