Public Feedback Shapes Vision for Eastleigh Town Centre Regeneration
Key themes and regeneration priorities for Eastleigh Town Centre have been identified following valuable feedback from more than 2,500 residents, local businesses, students, and visitors as part of the Together We Make Eastleigh project.
The project aims to boost the town centre’s economy, enhance community enjoyment, and create more welcoming public spaces for everyone to use. Insights from surveys, workshops and meetings have shaped a new Vision and Values framework to guide the next phase of improvements.
Among the top community priorities identified:
-
Stronger community connections
-
More cultural events and green spaces
-
A more attractive and navigable town centre
-
More youth-friendly spaces and activities
-
A livelier evening economy with more cafés and restaurants
To support these ambitions, concept designs for improvements to Market Street and High Street have been developed in partnership with design specialists Urban Movement, and shaped directly by community feedback. Ideas include:
-
Partially pedestrianised zones
-
Flexible outdoor seating for all weathers
-
Greener spaces
-
Enhanced access for people with disabilities
-
Designs that reflect Eastleigh’s Spitfire heritage
A 20-minute video presentation showcasing design examples and case studies is now available, offering a preview of potential improvements and inspirations for future development.
The designs are intended as a starting point for discussion and have already been shared with local businesses for early input. Further public consultation on more detailed proposals will take place within the next 18 months.
The project team is currently reviewing ideas to:
-
Improve town entrances and routes from surrounding neighbourhoods
-
Better signpost parking options for visitors
-
Involve more young people in the design process
-
Create weather-friendly public spaces usable year-round
Eastleigh Local Area Committee Chair Cllr Alex Bourne said: “It’s fantastic to see our residents and local businesses come together to shape a town centre that’s welcoming, accessible, and fit for the future. Their input is key to helping more people visit, stay longer, and enjoy all that Eastleigh has to offer.”
Together We Make Eastleigh is a collaboration between Eastleigh Borough Council, Eastleigh Town Council, and Eastleigh BID, supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
