Eastleigh’s First 30-Day Walking and Wheeling Festival Set to Launch This August

Last Updated: July 25, 2025By

Eastleigh Borough Council and Hampshire County Council are proud to fund Sustrans, the walking and cycling charity, to bring the Borough’s very first Walking and Wheeling Festival – a month-long celebration designed to help residents “Walk, Wheel and Connect.”

From 14 August, residents of all ages and abilities can take part in over 30 free walking and wheeling routes across 17 locations in Eastleigh. Designed to suit a wide range of access needs, interests, and fitness levels, the festival includes both led walks and self-guided trails – all focused on reconnecting with nature, local history, and the joy of moving under your own steam.

Local artists, organisations, and passionate volunteers have curated themed experiences that bring each walk to life through storytelling, photography, nature, and art. Highlights include a special appearance by triple Paralympic gold medallist Peter Hull MBE, who will share his inspiring journey to success at the 1992 Barcelona Games.

The festival kicks off with a family-friendly launch event:
“Careering Through Time: A Solve-A-Long Railway Adventure Trail” on the Hamble Rail Trail, developed by The Point as part of the national Railway 200 celebration. This immersive, interactive trail marks 200 years of public railways in Britain.

Many walks have limited capacity and must be booked in advance, so early booking is encouraged. Whether you prefer to join a guided group or explore at your own pace, this is your chance to discover Eastleigh’s hidden gems and vibrant communities in a new and accessible way.

Cllr Tonia Craig, Eastleigh Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, said: We hope everyone embraces this inclusive and exciting new festival. With so many fascinating locations and knowledgeable walk leaders, it’s a wonderful opportunity to connect—with each other and with the beautiful Borough we call home.
