Wiltshire Council Celebrates National Fitness Day 2025 with Free Activities

Last Updated: September 24, 2025By Tags:

National Fitness Day takes place on Wednesday 24 September, and to celebrate, Wiltshire Council will be offering free gym access and fitness classes across its leisure centres, plus a range of community sports sessions.

Whether it’s trying out a new class, exploring the gym, or simply taking the first step towards a healthier lifestyle, the campaign is designed to help inspire more people to get moving and start enjoying the physical and mental benefits of being more active every day.

With a quarter of the population in England classed as inactive (averaging less than 30 minutes of physical activity a week), National Fitness Day presents an opportunity to get millions more people active and support the NHS by improving the nation’s health, and Wiltshire Council is playing its part locally.

What’s on offer in Wiltshire:

  • Free gym access – all Wiltshire Council leisure centres will offer free gym access for adults (18+), including a tour and express induction with a qualified fitness consultant.
  • Free fitness classes (18+) – from strength and cardio to dance, aqua, cycle, and mind-body sessions, there’s something for everyone. Beginner-friendly and available both in-person and virtually, these classes are a great way to try something new in a supportive environment.

Offers are open to both current members and non-members, but booking is essential, visit http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/leisure-events to find out what’s on and to book free sessions.

  • Community sports sessions – beyond the leisure centres, a variety of low-cost and free community sports activities will be running throughout the week – including walking football, netball, running groups and more. These inclusive sessions are a fantastic way to get moving, meet new people, and have fun.

Cllr Mel Jacob, Cabinet Member for Communities, Engagement and Corporate Services. said: “We’re proud to support National Fitness Day and open our doors to the community. Whether you’re a regular gym-goer or just curious to try something new, this is your chance to get involved, meet our team, and take a positive step for your wellbeing.

“Let us know that you’re taking part for National Fitness Day, by sharing your visit on social media, tagging us in and using the hashtag #FitnessDay – we’d love to hear from you!”

“As more people in the UK prioritise their physical and mental health, National Fitness Day is a moment to celebrate all the ways we can stay active to support our wellbeing and quality of life.

“Our theme, ‘Powered by you!’, demonstrates that anyone can get involved, whether you’re a returning gym-goer or just taking the first step on your fitness journey.”
