Step into Spring Smokefree: Hampshire residents urged to quit on No Smoking Day

Last Updated: March 11, 2026By Tags:

With the lighter days and signs of spring emerging across the county, Hampshire County Council is encouraging residents to make this season a fresh start and take a positive step towards better health on National No Smoking Day.

Smokefree Hampshire, the county’s quit smoking service ensures residents have access to free, flexible and confidential stop smoking support. Anyone who lives, works or studies in Hampshire can receive personalised one-to-one advice, free quit aids such as vapes, patches and medication, and a choice of in-person, phone or online sessions – making it easier than ever to find support that fits individual lifestyles.

People who quit with specialist help are three times more likely to succeed than those who try to stop alone. Hampshire residents who have used Smokefree Hampshire say they’ve experienced positive and lasting improvements – from clearer breathing and better sleep to more energy for getting outdoors.  Some have shared that they feel as though they have a “new lease of life,” with everyday activities such as walking, meeting friends or enjoying a meal becoming noticeably easier and more enjoyable.

Simon Bryant, Director of Public Health at Hampshire County Council, said:
“Every quit is a win – for individuals, their families and our whole community. Quitting smoking is one of the most powerful and life‑changing decisions someone can make for their health. With Smokefree Hampshire’s free support, you don’t have to take that step alone. Whether it’s your first attempt or your fifth, the help is there, and the benefits start from the moment you stop.”

Smokefree Hampshire provides 12 weeks of free behavioural support, nicotine replacement therapy or vape starter kits (where appropriate), flexible appointment times including evenings and weekends, and specialist support for pregnant people, young people and those with mental health conditions.

Residents ready to begin their smokefree journey this spring can get started by texting QUIT to 80011, calling 0800 772 3649, or visiting smokefreehampshire.co.uk.
