Residents, businesses and local organisations are being invited to attend a public drop-in event to find out more about Wiltshire Council’s Salisbury Transport Strategy and the proposals being developed to shape the future of travel in the city.

The council is updating the Salisbury Transport Strategy, which was last refreshed in 2018. Since then, national and local transport policies have changed, new walking and cycling plans have been produced, and travel patterns have shifted following the pandemic. As a result, the strategy is being reviewed to ensure it reflects Salisbury’s current and future transport needs.

The refreshed strategy will set out an up-to-date, evidence-based plan for Salisbury’s transport network. It looks at issues such as congestion, road safety, public transport, carbon emissions, and how people move around the city.

It also explores potential improvements including better walking and cycling links, upgrades to key junctions and corridors, Park & Ride enhancements, improvements to bus reliability and priority, and measures to make streets safer and more accessible for everyone.

To help people understand the strategy and the emerging proposals, a drop-in event will take place at Salisbury’s City Hall on Tuesday 21 April, from 12pm to 8pm. The event is open to anyone who lives, works in or visits Salisbury and offers the opportunity to view plans, ask questions and speak directly with members of the project team.

The feedback and conversations from the event will help inform the final Salisbury Transport Strategy, which will guide future investment in roads, public transport, walking and cycling routes, and other transport improvements across the city.

Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “Updating the Salisbury Transport Strategy is an important step to make sure the city’s transport network works for everyone.

“This drop-in event is a chance for people to find out more about the proposals and talk to us about the challenges and opportunities they see in Salisbury’s transport system.

“Whether you live, work or visit the city, your views will help us plan for a safer, greener and better-connected future.

“We will also be holding a public consultation on the strategy starting in May, and we’ll have more information on that soon.”

A public consultation will also be held on the Salisbury Transport Strategy will begin in late May.
