Young Islanders explore ‘Energy’ in new Quay Arts exhibition

An inspiring new exhibition celebrating the creativity and talent of young people across the Island has opened at Quay Arts in Newport.

The free exhibition, themed ‘Energy’, brings together artwork created by students from 13 Isle of Wight primary, secondary and all-through schools.

It has been curated by Quay Arts in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council Public Health team’s PEACH offer, showcasing a wide range of imaginative responses to the theme.

Visitors to the gallery can expect to see both individual and collaborative pieces, produced using an impressive variety of materials and techniques.

The display includes two-dimensional and three-dimensional works, reflecting the diverse ways young artists have interpreted energy – from physical movement and natural forces to emotions, wellbeing and community spirit.

PEACH, which stands for Partnership for Education, Attainment and Children’s Health, works with schools to help improve educational outcomes while also promoting healthier lifestyles.

The initiative focuses on reducing health inequalities, encouraging positive behaviours within school communities and supporting the creation of healthy educational environments that help children and young people to thrive.

Schools work towards these aims through an award system aligned to the PEACH framework.

At the heart of PEACH are four key areas: personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE); physical activity; healthy eating; and emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Cath Hall, from PEACH, said the exhibition was an opportunity to take that work beyond the school gates.

“This year’s exhibition allows us to bring PEACH into the wider community, showcasing and celebrating both the great work that takes place in schools and the creativity of our Island pupils,” she said.

“We are pleased to showcase artwork from Island schools, from primary up to secondary age. Works have been created both by individual students and collaboratively using a variety of mediums, including 2D and 3D.”

The exhibition runs until Sunday, 26 April in the Clayden Gallery and cafe.
