Community Leader sought to Chair new £20m Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board for Bemerton, Salisbury

Bemerton is set to benefit from up to £20 million investment as part of the Government’s Pride in Place programme, an initiative designed to put power directly into the hands of local people so they can shape the future of their neighbourhoods.

Following the successful model used in communities across the country, an independent Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board for Bemerton will be established in Salisbury. The Neighbourhood Board will bring together residents, community groups, local organisations, businesses, public-sector partners and informal community leaders to create a long-term vision and plan for the area.

As part of this process, applications are now open for respected, passionate community leaders to apply for the role as the independent Chair.

Pride in Place is a national regeneration programme that provides communities with the resources to make lasting change. It gives neighbourhoods direct control over funding across a 10-year period, empowering local residents to lead decision-making, revitalise community spaces and support grassroots initiatives.

Bemerton has been selected as one of the UK neighbourhoods to receive this long-term investment, recognising both its strong community spirit and the opportunity for regeneration led by the people who know the area best.

The Chair will play a critical role in shaping the vision and direction of the Bemerton Pride in Place Neighbourhood Boad. Responsibilities will include:

  • Bringing together residents, community organisations, local services and partners to produce the Bemerton Pride in Place Plan
  • Championing inclusive, community-led decision making
  • Acting as a voice for the programme within the neighbourhood and wider city
  • Helping to recruit additional Board members from across the community

Ensuring funding is used in a way that reflects local priorities and supports lasting change
The role is voluntary and part-time and reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

While experience in community leadership or governance is welcome, enthusiasm, integrity and a strong connection to Bemerton are essential.

Those interested in applying for this position are asked to complete the online form – https://surveys.wiltshire.gov.uk/Interview/a3cb2d76-d0c4-4cf6-bcd9-9bc685a6dfa1 by midnight on Thursday 7 May 2026. Cllr Helen Belcher, Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Regeneration and Assets, said: “This programme is all about empowering the people of Bemerton to decide what matters most for their neighbourhood. The new Neighbourhood Board will bring together the insight, energy and ambitions of local residents, and the Chair will play a vital role in guiding that shared vision. We’re excited to welcome someone who is passionate about the community and committed to helping it thrive for many years to come.”
