The Mayor officially launched Slough’s Best Start Family Hubs on Monday as partners, staff, parents, and community members came together to celebrate all the hubs offer.

Also attending was Cllr Puja Bedi, cabinet member for children and lifelong learning and Cllr Dexter Smith, leader of the council. Meerab Obaid ur Rahman, who entered the competition to design a new logo for the hubs last November, was represented by her Mum, Aisha who said: “My daughter participated in this competition out of her passion for art as she is exceptionally talented in her artwork. This is a big achievement for her when she is only 15 years old, and by winning this competition, she has made me incredibly proud.”

There are now three family hubs across Slough, Chalvey Grove, Penn Road, and Romsey Close and two children’s centres remaining at Monksfield Way, and Yew Tree Road.

Families can access a range of services all in one place at Best Start Family Hubs, for ages 0-19 (0-25 with SEND). From pregnancy antenatal programmes to early years and beyond, working with partner services such as midwifery, HCRG 0-19 Health Visiting, community/voluntary CVS, Home-Start and our faith partners, as well as council services like libraries, debt and welfare, and housing.

Our family hubs offer play and learn groups from bumps to walkers, breastfeeding and infant weaning sessions, benefits/housing drop-in sessions. Universal support sessions for families with children with SEND is being developed over the next few months, alongside a range of parenting programmes and home learning support. The Best Start Family Hubs will continue to offer early years provision for children aged six months to eight years.

Cllr Puja Bedi, cabinet member for children and lifelong learning, said: “It is my pleasure to be here today with all of the staff and partners who have worked so hard together to create our three Best Start Family Hubs.

“We have an amazing number of services on offer at our hubs, and I look forward to seeing how they develop and grow over time to support even more local families. Thank you to everyone involved today, we are so lucky to have the best partners in Slough, it wouldn’t be possible without your contributions.”

The Mayor of Slough, Cllr Siobhan Dauti, said: “Congratulations to the team today, on this wonderful achievement, our family hubs show partnership working at its very best, tailored to each community they serve.

“I know first-hand how important children’s centres and hubs are to parents and carers and how much of a difference they can make to people’s lives, whatever challenges they face.

“Congratulations also go to the logo competition winner Meerab, whose design contributed to our fabulous new logo, now proudly displayed at all of the family hubs.”

Marie-Claire Avis, head of service for children’s centres and family hubs, said: “We are delighted that today marks an important step forward for families in Slough as our children’s centres evolve into family hubs — developing welcoming, inclusive spaces where children, young people, and parents can access the support they need, all in one place.

“This development reflects our commitment to strengthening early help, improving family wellbeing, and working closely with partners and communities to give every child the best possible start in life. We are proud to be building a service that is accessible, connected, and shaped around the needs of Slough’s families.”
