Partnership Stronger Together Communities Strategy endorsed by Council
Bracknell Forest Council has added its support to the Stronger Together 10‑year communities strategy for the borough. The strategy was developed by more than 20 local organisations and shaped by the views of thousands of residents, including hundreds of young people.
The Stronger Together Communities Strategy sets out a shared, long-term approach to strengthening community resilience across Bracknell Forest. It focuses on helping people feel connected, included and able to take part in community life; whilst recognising that strong communities help prevent issues from escalating and reduce pressure on services.
The strategy is a whole-borough approach, owned and delivered by residents, community groups, partners and organisations across the borough.
The strategy is based on feedback from the local community about what is important to them and how we can all help each other lead happy, productive and independent lives.
Key priorities in the strategy include:
- Creating more opportunities for people to connect with their neighbours, build friendships and take part in community activities.
- Supporting and enabling resident-led groups and initiatives, making the most of community spaces, green areas and local events.
- Valuing the wide range of cultures, ages and backgrounds that make up the borough, and celebrating residents’ similarities and differences.
- Ensuring everyone can access local services and participate fully and fairly in community life.
- Encouraging shared responsibility for neighbourhoods, enabling residents to play an active role in keeping and celebrating Bracknell Forest as a great place to live and work.
Cllr Helen Purnell, leader of the council and cabinet member for council strategy and communities, said: “This strategy matters because strong, well-connected communities help people live happier, healthier lives and keep Bracknell Forest a great place to live, learn and work. It sets out a clear plan for the council, residents and partners to work together in practical ways that will make a real difference over the next 10 years.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who shared their views during the consultation. What you told us has helped shape the final plan, so it truly reflects what’s important to local people. Agreeing this strategy is an exciting step forward, bringing together organisations and groups to build stronger, more connected and resilient communities.”
Work to put the strategy into practice is already underway, based on an initial and evolving action plan. Residents and partners will have ongoing opportunities to endorse the strategy and join in as it progresses.
