Bridgewell opening celebration

Bridgewell supported living accommodation celebrated with its new residents recently, with an official opening ceremony on Monday, 18 May.

The event marked an important milestone for people with additional needs and their families, as well as recognising all those who played a key role in delivering this specialist accommodation.

The formal opening was celebrated by representatives from Bracknell Forest Council, Hightown, Neilcott Construction, along with Bridgewell residents, their families and the local MP.

Hightown was appointed as the service provider for Bridgewell last year and since opening has welcomed residents into their new homes. After allowing time for residents to settle in and feel comfortable in their surroundings, a formal opening event was held to celebrate the completion of the project and the start of this new chapter.

The modern two‑storey building, located at Ladybank in Hanworth, has been carefully designed around the needs of its residents and provides four distinct households, each with five bedrooms.

All bedrooms include en‑suite bathrooms and are supported by shared communal and dining spaces. This layout allows residents to live as independently as possible while benefiting from shared living and the right level of support.

The new fit‑for‑purpose accommodation is designed to give residents greater choice and control over their lives. It supports people to build everyday living skills, enjoy more freedom, maintain their physical and emotional wellbeing, and develop confidence and independence in a safe and supportive environment.

Cllr Paul Bidwell, cabinet member for adults, economy and regeneration, said: “This is a really important step for everyone involved. We’ve worked closely with people with additional needs, their families and our partners to make sure Bridgewell is built around what people need now and in the future.

“Bridgewell offers a modern, comfortable place to live that supports independence and wellbeing. The building is energy‑efficient and environmentally friendly, making use of renewable energy like heat pumps and solar panels, and it is completely gas‑free. This means lower energy use and a home that is warmer, safer and more cost effective.

“The design also focuses on bringing people together. Shared spaces, including a roof garden, help residents connect with each other, feel less isolated and be part of a supportive community.”

Maxine Espley, chief executive of Hightown, said: “We are proud to have worked in close partnership with Bracknell Forest Council and all involved to successfully deliver and mobilise this scheme, ensuring a smooth and person-centred transition for residents into their new homes.

“In just over six months, it has been wonderful to see people feeling settled, at ease and truly at home, with the freedom to make choices about their daily lives while receiving the right support to build their independence. Bridgewell is already enabling residents to connect with their local community, develop new skills and enjoy improved quality of life and we look forward to continuing to support them to thrive in this welcoming and inclusive environment.”
