Celebrate Volunteers’ Week in Woking town centre
Local residents are invited to discover the wide range of volunteering opportunities available in Woking during a special Volunteers’ Week Fair on Thursday 4 June, from 11am to 2pm, in Mercia Walk organised by Volunteer Woking.
The event brings together many local charities and community organisations, offering visitors the chance to learn more about the vital services they provide and how volunteering can help make a big difference.
Organisations attending include Woking Good Neighbourhood Scheme, Silver Friends, The Brigitte Trust, Woking Community Transport, The Arbor Centre, Disability Challengers, Buckinghamshire & Surrey Trading Standards, Phoenix Cultural Centre, east to west, Canalside Community Fridge, Surplus to Supper, Citizens Advice Woking, GIVE and Holme Farm.
Cllr Ann-Marie Barker, Leader of Woking Borough Council, said: “Woking is incredibly fortunate to be home to such a rich and diverse charity and voluntary sector, supported by dedicated volunteers who give their time to help others. Their contribution makes a real difference to our communities every day.
“This Volunteers’ Week (1 – 7 June), I encourage all residents to consider whether they could give as little as one hour a week to support a local cause that means something to them. The Volunteers’ Week Fair is the perfect opportunity to learn more about specific charities and find a volunteering role that suits you.”
Also in town, the Buddy Bus will be stationed in Jubilee Square. Newly wrapped in pink, the bus will be promoting its services within the community and seeking sponsorship to support its continued work.
The Buddy Bus was donated by Woking Community Transport and is run by Silver Friends who manage bookings. Community groups can hire the bus for a small fee to support trips and activities, helping to reduce isolation and keep local people connected.
Businesses interested in sponsoring the Buddy Bus can contact Silver Friends or speak to the team at the Volunteers’ Week Fair.
