History was made at ATC Pirbright recently as 114 soldiers became the final recruits to Pass Off under the Jackson Company name, in a milestone ceremony attended by Guildford Borough Council (GBC).
Held at Alexander Barracks in Pirbright, one of the Army’s principal training establishments for new recruits, the event marked a significant milestone for the soldiers as they were presented on parade in front of senior officers, family and invited guests.
This particular parade was especially notable as it marked the final cohort to pass out under the historic Jackson Company name, ahead of its transition to become Masters VC Company, reflecting the Army’s evolving structure and heritage.
GBC was represented by Leader of the Council Cllr Julia McShane, Armed Forces Champion Cllr Stephen Hives, Cllr Tom Hunt and the Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Jane Tyson.
Their presence underlined the Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community and strengthening relationships with ATC Pirbright.
A key military training centre
ATC Pirbright plays a nationally significant role in training new soldiers and is undergoing major investment, with training currently delivered at ATR Winchester set to relocate to the site later this year.
The establishment is a prominent part of the local area, contributing both to the national defence infrastructure and to the Guildford community.
Cllr Stephen Hives, Armed Forces Champion at Guildford Borough Council, said: “It was a real privilege to attend the Passing Out Parade at ATC Pirbright and witness the dedication, discipline and achievement of these 114 new soldiers.
“ATC Pirbright plays a vital role in preparing soldiers for service and is an important part of our local community.
“As a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, we’re committed to ensuring that those who serve, and their families, are treated fairly and supported. We’re proud to maintain such a strong and positive relationship with the training centre at Pirbright.”
Cllr Julia McShane, Leader of Guildford Borough Council, said: “It was a privilege to attend this important ceremony and to see first-hand the dedication and achievement of these new soldiers. ATC Pirbright plays a vital role both nationally and within our local community, and we are proud of our strong relationship with the Armed Forces here in Guildford.”
Recognising service ahead of Armed Forces Day
The visit forms part of Guildford Borough Council’s wider work to highlight and celebrate the Armed Forces community ahead of Armed Forces Day on 27 June. Armed Forces Week will be marked with the ceremonial raising of the flag at the Guildhall on Guildford High Street on Monday 22 June.
