Boy charged with murder of teenager in Battersea

A teenage boy has been charged with the murder of 17-year-old Jamal Coombes in Battersea.

The 14-year-old from Wandsworth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with murder and possession of a bladed article on Monday, 22 June. He will appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court later this morning.

A boy and girl, both aged 15 and arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday, 20 June, have been released on bail while enquiries continue.

A fourth boy, also aged 15, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday, 21 June. He remains in police custody.

Police were called at around 04:20hrs on Saturday, 20 June to reports of a stabbing on Glycena Road, Battersea.

Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance and found Jamal with serious injuries.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Jamal’s family continue to be supported by specialist officers.
