Community comes together to celebrate 100 years of Higginson Park
Residents and visitors came together on Saturday (20 June) to celebrate 100 years of Higginson Park in Marlow, with a lively programme of activities marking the centenary of this much-loved green space.
The park, which became public land in 1926 following a remarkable local fundraising effort, welcomed people of all ages throughout the afternoon to enjoy a range of free, accessible activities celebrating its history and community spirit.
Highlights of the day included activities by Marlow Museum, giving visitors an insight into the park’s past, as well as children’s activities with local author Simon Mole and an inclusive ‘Art in the Park’ outdoor painting session. A ceremonial tree planting provided a lasting tribute to the park’s centenary, alongside a commemorative floral display in the park’s iconic flowerbeds.
The event drew strong community support, with families, residents and visitors enjoying the opportunity to relax, connect and celebrate one of Marlow’s most treasured spaces.
Peter Brazier, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people come together to celebrate 100 years of Higginson Park. The event was a great reflection of the important role the park continues to play in the community – bringing people together, providing space to relax and creating lasting memories. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a success.”
Buckinghamshire Council, as trustee of the Higginson Park Charity, continues to care for and maintain the park, ensuring it remains a vibrant and welcoming space for future generations.
