West Berkshire Council has confirmed it will continue to run its Resource Centres directly, following a detailed period of consultation and market research.

This decision reflects the Council’s commitment to ensuring residents receive high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective support.

After exploring alternative delivery models, including the potential involvement of external providers, it became clear that the market does not currently have the capacity to deliver the level of service our Resource Centre users need.

To strengthen the long-term sustainability of the centres, the Council will co-locate complementary services, such as Family Hubs, within the same buildings. This approach will help maintain the centres’ viability while keeping a broad range of services accessible and affordable for residents.

Councillor Patrick Clark, Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health, said: “We took the time to carefully research all available options because we care deeply about the people who rely on these services. By co-locating services, we can strengthen our Resource Centres and ensure they remain a vital part of our community.

“We know the consultation period was a difficult time of uncertainty for many service users and their families, and we hope this decision provides reassurance and clarity about the future.”
