Over £50,000 of improvements have been served up at Basingstoke Indoor Tennis Centre in War Memorial Park as part of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s investment in sport.

The four floodlit outdoor courts have been resurfaced and relined at the borough council-owned facility which is run by National Tennis Association. Final colouring and painting of the surface will be completed in the new year.

National Tennis Association took over the running of the popular tennis facility, which also includes four indoor tennis courts, eight indoor pickleball courts and a pavilion with a café, last year.

The centre offers pay to play opportunities for tennis and pickleball, short or longer-term memberships, coaching, parties and the opportunity for a bite to eat and a drink at the Park Social café for both users of the centre and visitors to the War Memorial Park.

National Tennis Association also run the council’s other six outdoor floodlit tennis courts at Stratton Park, which were resurfaced and modernised in 2021.

Cabinet Member for Sports, Leisure and Culture Cllr Kerry Morrow said: “The tennis centre at War Memorial Park provides a great opportunity for both experienced tennis or pickleball players or those who are new to the sport to pick up a racquet and play.

“Both this centre and the courts at Stratton Park are great places for people to learn a new sport or work on their game with both indoor and outdoor facilities available to book online. Our investment in both facilities continues our commitment to provide well maintained and easily accessible spaces for residents to be more active and improve their wellbeing.”

National Tennis Association Director Ed Nieburg said: “We’re proud to be working in partnership with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to operate and deliver a thriving tennis and pickleball facility for the local community. The refurbished outdoor courts will ensure players of all ages and abilities can enjoy high-quality playing conditions year-round. It’s fantastic to see participation growing, and we’re excited to continue developing the centre as a vibrant hub for sport and social connection in the heart of Basingstoke.”
