Council to host local government reorganisation briefing sessions
Following the recent decision on local government reorganisation, a series of briefing sessions will be held for residents and stakeholders on what the changes mean for the borough.
Led by the Leader of Woking Borough Council, Cllr Ann-Marie Barker, the briefings will provide an overview of the decision and its implications for Woking, as well as the government’s intention to provide debt relief totalling £500 million in 2026/27 to support repayment of council debt.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with senior council officers and councillors.
The briefing sessions will be held on the following dates:
- Businesses: 7.30am, Friday 7 November, Hilton Hotel, as part of Woking Means Business Breakfast Briefing.
- Community, voluntary and charity groups: 7pm to 8.30pm, Tuesday 11 November, online.
- Residents: 7pm to 8.30pm, Thursday 20 November, online.
Speaking about the briefing sessions, Cllr Barker, said: “Local government reorganisation is a significant moment for both Woking and Surrey.
“Now that the government has confirmed the abolition of Surrey’s 12 existing councils in March 2027, and the creation of two new unitary authorities, I want to ensure our residents, businesses and community groups are fully informed.
“I would encourage everyone with an interest in the future of local government to attend one of these briefing sessions.”
