Eastleigh Borough to Mark 80th Anniversary of the End of the Second World War
2025 marks a significant milestone — the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. This November, Eastleigh Borough will once again come together in solemn remembrance to honour the bravery, sacrifice, and service of those who served in the two world wars and in subsequent conflicts.
Remembrance Sunday will be observed across the Borough on Sunday 9 November, with commemorative services and parades taking place in local communities.
In Eastleigh town centre, the Remembrance Service will begin at 10:45am at the War Memorial on Leigh Road Recreation Ground, following a parade at 10:30am from Market Street. This memorial has been the focal point of the town’s commemorations since 1921.
As in previous years, Eastleigh Borough Council will install two large poppies on the nearby bandstand — a striking symbol of remembrance and respect. Residents and visitors are also invited to tie their own poppy to the bandstand as a personal tribute.
In addition, an Armistice Day Service will take place at the same location on Tuesday 11 November, beginning at 10:45am. A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am, marking the exact time the guns fell silent in 1918.
Further details about Remembrance services across the Borough — including any associated road closures — will be shared nearer the time via the Council’s website and social media channels.
