Now in its 22nd year, Recycle Week is the nation’s biggest annual celebration of recycling, running from 22 – 28 September.

Fareham Borough Council is committed to recycling as much waste as possible and is currently preparing to introduce weekly food waste collections from March 2026.

However, there is always more that can be done, which is why the Council is proudly supporting the Recycle Week campaign to shine a spotlight on items that end up in the rubbish bin but can, and should, be recycled. These include:

• Shampoo bottles
• Toilet and kitchen roll tubes
• Trigger spray bottles
• Aftershave and perfume bottles (can go in the glass recycling banks around the Borough)

Executive Member for Streetscene at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Ian Bastable commented: “Fareham residents are great at recycling already, but there is a lot of confusion around what can and can’t be recycled. Recycle Week helps to shine a spotlight on some of the items which are often put into general waste bins, but that should be put into recycling bins or glass recycling banks. By rescuing these missed items, we can make our recycling efforts even more impactful.”
