Fareham Fly Tipping Success
Fareham Borough Council is pleased to report that, since July 2025, it has successfully issued 11 Fixed Penalty Notices for fly tipping offences with more planned in the coming weeks.
Every single incident of fly tipping is investigated before it is cleared in Fareham and, where sufficient evidence is present, the Council has acted to issue fixed penalty notices to the offenders. These range from £50 to over £1,000 depending on the severity of the fly tip.
However, fly tipping can also lead to criminal prosecution and offenders can be fined up to £50,000 and/or imprisoned for up to five years. Fines are unlimited if the case goes to the county court.
Executive Member for Health and Public Protection, Cllr Joanne Burton, said: “Fly tipping is totally unacceptable, as there are ample facilities to dispose of waste legally and without spoiling our beautiful Borough. Our enforcement officers work tirelessly to track down offenders and issue appropriate fines. However, this task should never need to be done. As Council Tax payers, cleaning up fly tipping costs us all money, which is why we do everything in our power to prosecute fly tippers in Fareham. We hope that our recent success in tracking down offenders will act as a deterrent for others who may be tempted to illegally dump their waste.”
Residents are responsible for all waste removed from their homes, even when using a third party to do so. Find out more about how to prevent fly tipping at www.fareham.gov.uk/flytipping.
