An exciting creative arts festival is coming to Gosport next week, celebrating local heritage and culture and involving more than 700 schoolchildren from the town.

Festival at The Fort (2 to 5 July) combines free music, dance and art events for everyone, in the dramatic setting of Fort Brockhurst on the outskirts of Gosport town.

Whether you’re a seasoned concertgoer or a curious newcomer, the festival offers something for everyone. Highlights include a free youth orchestra concert with ‘bring your own’ picnic and a jam-packed family fun day including a samba band workshop, performances from young aspiring musicians, and a circus act based around life on a farm courtesy of Farm Yard Circus direct from Glastonbury.

The festival is the latest celebration for the Gosport Cultural Education Project, a joint initiative between The Grange Festival Learning and the Hampshire Music Education Hub. Led by the County Council’s Hampshire Music Service, the Hampshire Music Education Hub is a consortium of partners dedicated to creating musical opportunities for children and young people across the county.

Hampshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Steve Forster, said: “The Gosport Cultural Education Project is an inspiring project which since launching in 2023, has empowered more than 2,000 children and young people to express themselves and celebrate their local communities through music and the arts. I am delighted to see Festival at the Fort back this year with another engaging programme of events, making culture and heritage accessible to everyone of all ages.”

Susan Hamilton, Director of Learning at The Grange Festival, said: “The Gosport Cultural Education Project is a vital initiative that celebrates the rich heritage and vibrant culture of Gosport. It has been a privilege to collaborate with the Hampshire Music Education Hub to unite young people, educators, and the wider community through inspiring, cross-arts experiences that spark creativity, build confidence, and strengthen local pride.”
