Gosport Borough Council has again been awarded Gold accreditation in the national Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, for demonstrating the highest level of support for its armed forces community.
The scheme, run by the Ministry of Defence, recognises employers who demonstrate exceptional support for serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and military families.
Gold is the highest level of accreditation and is reserved for organisations that consistently go above and beyond in upholding the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.
Gosport Borough Council has maintained its gold status since first being awarded in 2021, recognising its sustained commitment to:
- Supporting reservists, veterans and their families
- Offering flexible working arrangements for training and deployment
- Promoting the value that armed forces personnel bring to the workforce
- Acting as an advocate for defence across our wider community
Gosport has a high number of actively serving personnel and the highest concentration of veterans in England and Wales, according to Census data.
Gosport Borough Council is a proud member of the Solent Armed Forces Covenant Partnership Board, working to deliver the Covenant’s promise ensuring that no one is disadvantaged by military service.
Gosport Mayor Cllr Kirsten Bradley said: “Our armed forces community is part of the very fabric of Gosport, and this Gold reaccreditation shows our deep commitment to those who serve and have served, along with their families.
“I’m incredibly proud that the council continues to lead by example in championing our amazing armed forces community, and continues to be a supportive and inclusive place for those who give so much for our country.”
