Have Your Say on Fareham Housing’s Right-Sizing Policy

Last Updated: July 24, 2025By

Fareham Borough Council is encouraging residents to take part in a public consultation on Fareham Housing’s Right-Sizing Policy—a policy designed to help tenants understand the process of moving to a smaller home if their circumstances change.

‘Right-sizing’ allows tenants to relocate to smaller, more suitable properties, often after their housing needs have shifted. This not only helps tenants save on housing costs but also frees up larger homes for families who need more space. It ensures that adapted homes go to those who need them most and supports a more efficient use of the Council’s housing stock.

The consultation seeks feedback on the policy to ensure the information provided is clear, accessible, and helpful to all residents. It is open until 1 September. Residents are invited to read the draft policy and share their views through a short online survey here:

Councillor Fred Birkett, Executive Member for Housing, said: Fareham Housing is focused on offering residents more choice and flexibility while building strong and supportive communities. Right-sizing helps match people to the homes that best suit their needs. I encourage everyone to review the draft policy and share their views, so we can make the guidance as useful and clear as possible.”
