Fareham Borough Council has today launched a public consultation on exciting new proposals to redevelop 130–136 West Street—an important site in the heart of Fareham town centre.

The Council purchased the buildings in March 2024. The site includes the former Foresters Hall, several ground-floor shops, and the well-known Birks of Fareham furniture store.

Working in partnership with MH Architects, Fareham Housing has developed early plans to transform the site. Proposals include delivering much-needed affordable housing alongside new ground-floor commercial space—helping to reinvigorate the town centre.

The consultation runs from 17 June to 8 July, and residents, businesses, and other stakeholders are encouraged to review the proposals and provide feedback online at:

An in-person consultation event will also be held on 24 June, from 4–7pm, at Westbury Manor, a fully accessible venue on West Street. Refreshments will be available for purchase from the on-site café.

Cllr Simon Martin, Leader of Fareham Borough Council, said: This redevelopment will breathe new life into a prominent part of West Street, replacing empty buildings with vibrant new spaces. It’s a key part of our vision for regenerating the town centre—boosting footfall, creating opportunities for businesses, and enhancing the local community. I encourage everyone to get involved and share their views.

Cllr Fred Birkett, Executive Member for Housing, added: These buildings had fallen into disrepair, but now they offer the chance to provide much-needed affordable homes right in the town centre. We want local people to help shape the final design through this consultation.
