Man charged with arson following petrol station fire in Lee-on-the-Solent

Officers investigating a fire on Thursday 4 December at BP Petrol Station on Broom Way, Lee-on-the-Solent, have charged a man with arson.

Officers were called to a report of a public order incident at the BP Petrol Station at 11:15am, when it was reported that a man had been seen on the forecourt with an axe. A fire then began which spread to several vehicles and petrol pumps.

Officers attended, along with colleagues from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire Service and South Central Ambulance Service, and a man was located with burn injuries and taken to hospital for treatment. A dog was also found dead at the scene.

51-year-old Tyson Charlie Nevin, of Spicewood in Fareham, was subsequently arrested and has now been charged with arson with intent to endanger life, arson, threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

Nevin appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court this morning (Saturday 31 January 2026) has been remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday 2 March 2026.
