A man has been charged with attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child in Portsmouth.

We received a report just before 7:00pm on Sunday 29 March that a man had been communicating online with a person he believed to be a child in Portsmouth.

Officers attended Somers Road North and arrested Nicholas Starlight, 30, of Britannia Road in Southsea.

He was subsequently charged with attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

He has been remanded into custody to appear today (Tuesday 31 March) at Portsmouth Magistrates Court.
