Man given indefinite hospital order following fatal Brighton incident
A 20-year-old man has received an indefinite hospital order following the death of a man and the serious injuries inflicted on two others.
On 1 April, 2025, emergency services responded to an address in Hartfield Avenue, Brighton, after it was reported that people had been injured inside the property.
Officers found a woman and boy outside of the address, with the woman suffering significant knife injuries and the boy an injury to his head. They were treated by paramedics, before being taken to hospital.
A 57-year-old man, identified as Emad Samir Botros Farag, was found inside the address with a significant head injury. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers conducted a search of the address and arrested Fabio Botros, who was 19 at the time of the incident.
Fabio Botros, of Hartfield Avenue, was charged the following day in relation to murder of Emad, and the attempted murder of the two other victims. All involved were known to one another.
Fabio Botros appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 3 April to answer charges, and was remanded in custody pending further hearings and ongoing enquiries.
On Thursday, February 12 at Lewes Crown Court, Fabio Botros pleaded guilty to manslaughter and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was sentenced the same day to an indefinite hospital order.
Detective Chief Inspector, Mark Cullimore said, “Our thoughts continue to be with Emad’s family, who have been profoundly affected by this tragic and devastating incident.
“Emad was a much-loved family member, and his loss continues to be deeply felt by those who knew and cared for him.
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the community for their support and assistance to police throughout the investigation.
“Fabio Botros has now received an indefinite hospital order in relation to the offences committed on 1 April, 2025.
“We hope this outcome represents a further step in the family’s healing journey, as they continue to navigate their grief.”
