Man jailed for murder – Slough
Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, a man has been jailed in connection with a murder in Slough.
Jakub Nowicki, aged 40, of Ascot Road, Maidenhead, was today (17/11) given a mandatory life sentence, with a minimum term of 19 years in prison following a hearing at Reading Crown Court.
He was given an 18-month sentence for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and a one-month sentence for criminal damage, both to run concurrently.
Nowicki was found guilty on Monday 10 November by a unanimous jury verdict of one count each of murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm following an 11-day trial at the same court. He pleaded guilty to criminal damage at an earlier hearing.
At approximately 6.45am on 25 April 2025, police were called to a property in Grant Avenue in Slough following reports of a domestic assault. On arrival, a woman was found outside the address with visible injuries, including cuts and swelling to her lips and bloodstains on her clothing.
Inside the property, officers discovered a man, later identified as Tomasz Kopec, lying on the living room floor with severe head injuries and surrounded by broken furniture. He was in a critical condition and was immediately taken to hospital by ambulance.
Despite specialist treatment, Mr Kopec sadly died from his injuries in hospital on 27 April 2025.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that his injuries were consistent with a prolonged assault involving multiple blows to the head.
The second victim, a 34-year-old woman, sustained injuries and required minimal medical treatment. She has since made a full recovery.
Nowicki was arrested the same day and was charged the following day (26/4).
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Nick Hind, of our Major Crime Unit, said: “The murder of Tomasz Kopec has been a devastating loss for his family, and our thoughts remain with them and his friends.
“Those family members present in court have displayed admirable composure and dignity, while Nowicki has never accepted responsibility for his brutal and sustained attack, nor shown any remorse.
“I hope that the sentencing and conclusion of proceedings today will allow his family to grieve, and that they are given the privacy to do so”.
