Museum Shop Sunday campaign encourages consumers to shop with purpose this Christmas
The D-Day Story will be taking part in Museum Shop Sunday on 30 November, with discounts on some great gift ideas just in time for Christmas.
Throughout the day there is a full schedule of events and visitors will receive a 10% across the award-winning shop (5% on alcohol, minimum spend of £10).
On the day Portsmouth-based singer Nathalie Gunn will be performing songs from the 1930s and 1940s, families will be able to take part in Operation: Spies and Lies which will take them around the museum to complete challenges.
South Coast Modellers will be displaying their hand-made military warships, aircraft and vehicles and in the afternoon there will be guided tours of LCT 7074, led by the museum’s volunteers. Survivor! From North East to Nightclub via Normandy reveals LCT 7074’s fascinating history from its construction in the North East of England to its role in D-Day, post war use as a floating nightclub, its move to Portsmouth and restoration.
The D-Day Story cafe will be serving up festive treats including mince pies, yule log slices and turkey and cranberry paninis.
Every year on Museum Shop Sunday over 2,200 arts, heritage and cultural attractions worldwide come together to showcase their fantastic shops and unique products with special events and promotions in store and online.
Museum Shop Sunday is all about Shopping with Purpose. When you choose to shop at The D-Day Story, you are not just buying a gift – you are actively contributing to the museum’s work and maintaining its collections for future generations to enjoy.
The D-Day Story’s shop won Shop of the Year at this year’s Museums + Heritage awards in London.
Councillor Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council said: “Museum Shop Sunday is a great reminder that every purchase made in a cultural venue like The D-Day Story helps preserve our shared history. By shopping with purpose this Christmas, residents and visitors are directly supporting the museum’s vital work, from safeguarding its remarkable collections to delivering engaging experiences for all ages. I am proud that Portsmouth is once again showcasing the best of our heritage and creativity through this award-winning shop and a fantastic day of festive events.”
