New seafront playground coming to Lee-on-the-Solent
A new adventure playground and fitness area for young people and adults is on the way on the site of the former skatepark in Lee-on-the-Solent.
Gosport Borough Council is creating the new facility, which will be split into two distinct zones – a ninja trail packed with inclusive play equipment for juniors and teens of all abilities, and a fitness zone for older children and adults.
The Ninja Trail will have exciting obstacles including giant arched monkey bars, a warrior ramp, climbing slopes and suspended steps – perfect for those looking for an energetic, fun challenge. It will have multiple routes to cater for all abilities, including wheelchair users. Hammock seats with vibrant floor graphics will create a welcoming space to hang out and enjoy the stunning coastal views.
The Fitness Zone will include pull-up bars, dip bars, and a sit-up bench, suiting a wide range of abilities and fitness levels. Inclusive features such as wheelchair-accessible monkey bars and a transfer-friendly workout bench will make it welcoming for users of all abilities. Bright ground-level markings will add extra space for exercise, and those curious or new to exercising outside can scan QR codes on their phone to see examples to help them.
Following a competitive tendering process, the council has chosen Proludic Ltd, a leading specialist in coastal play and fitness equipment, to build the new facility.
Work is due to start shortly and the new play and fitness area is expected to open in spring 2026.
Gosport Borough Council Leader Cllr Peter Chegwyn said: “We have been carefully considering the best use for the old skatepark for a while, so we are excited we can finally share our exciting plans.
“Nothing like this currently exists for older children in Gosport, it will be a brilliant new space to socialise and have fun while being active. At the same time parents and adults will have their own dedicated area to work out.
“This is all part of our commitment to maintaining and enhancing play areas and spaces for people of all ages and abilities in Gosport.”
The old skatepark had been closed for several years and was demolished earlier this year after a council report deemed it unsafe and not fit for purpose.
