New tiered social prescribing service launched for Woking residents

Last Updated: January 16, 2026By

Woking residents can now benefit from a new tiered social prescribing service, designed to deliver more personalised, community‑based support for improving health and wellbeing.

Social prescribing connects residents who have social, emotional, or practical needs that cannot be addressed via a GP, to a wealth of different services in the borough.

This may include support with mental wellbeing, loneliness, housing, finances and access to local activities and services.

The new tiered approach better aligns with the government’s Neighbourhood Health agenda to ensure residents receive the right level of support while working closely with local partners.

The tiered approach currently being trialled in Woking:

  • Tier 1 – Light touch: Information, advice, warm handovers and drop‑in sessions*.
  • Tier 2 – Guided support: Person‑centred goal setting, motivational coaching and regular check‑ins.
  • Tier 3 – Intensive support: Supporting complex needs with longer term one-to-one support, advocacy and navigating services.

Cllr Steve Greentree, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Living Well, said: “Social prescribing is a valuable service that recognises the important role the community and local partners play in improving health and wellbeing, outside of a GP setting.

“This new tiered model ensures residents receive the right level of support at the right time, whether they need light‑touch guidance or more intensive, long‑term help.

“If you, or someone you know, could benefit from this service, I would strongly encourage you to explore the support available.”

The social prescribing service is delivered by Spelthorne Borough Council on behalf of Woking Borough Council for residents in Woking.

Residents and professionals can access the service through self‑referral or professional referral. To find out more, visit www.woking.gov.uk/socialprescribing
