Hampshire & Isle of Wight’s Police and Crime Panel has approved the selection of Alexis Boon as the next Chief Constable for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.

At a Confirmation Hearing held on 24 June, the Police and Crime Panel considered the recommendation by the Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, for Mr Boon to be appointed to the role of Chief Constable. He is currently Deputy Assistant Commissioner with the Metropolitan Police, having started his career with Surrey Police in 1998, undertaking uniform and detective duties as a Constable and Sergeant. He then transferred to the Metropolitan Police where he worked his way up the ranks before moving to Counter Terrorism Command.

As part of the role of the Hampshire Police and Crime Panel to scrutinise the work of the Police and Crime Commissioner, the PCP is required to hold a Confirmation Hearing to review the proposed appointment and question the preferred candidate on their suitability for the role. Based on this hearing, the Panel then makes a report with its recommendation on the appointment. Chair of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Panel, Councillor Karen Lucioni, said: “The Panel is unanimous in confirming the appointment of Alexis Boon to the role of Chief Constable for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Mr Boon will be a new Chief Constable of exceptionally high calibre. His answers to the questions posed by our Panel demonstrated his suitability for the role, evidencing the depth and breadth of his experience to continue to move Hampshire and the Isle of Wight forward among the safest places in the country in which to live, work and visit.
