Police patrols increased in Southampton parks as part of efforts to make public spaces safer for all

Officers in Southampton have been conducting increased patrols in parks and public spaces as part of our proactive patrols to prevent incidents such as indecent exposure.

In the summer of 2024, Hampshire police saw a series of these incidents in the city’s public spaces, with girls and woman left feeling unsafe. At the time, we increased patrols in response to this.

This year, we have been proactively patrolling areas like Southampton Common, Riverside Park and the city centre spaces, as part of Operation Tiree, as part of our efforts to identify any potential offenders, and make these safe spaces for all, but in particular women.

It is vitally important that any suspicious incidents are reported, in particular any incidents of indecent exposure, so that our teams can continue to target their patrols in the right locations.

We have also already made several arrests for such incidents this summer, where officers have been out in the city and on patrol at the time, and quickly able to respond to reports.

You can find out more information about indecent exposure and what to do if someone exposes themselves to you here.
