Popular events in Gosport have been awarded grants to help them run this year.

In total, Gosport Borough Council has awarded £35,000 to support five local events:

Gosport Marine Festival; Sea Shanty Festival; Gosport Urban Arts Festival; Gosport Sunset Festival; Rowner Carnival.

The council has also granted a total of £26,566 to 11 community projects, including funding for Second Chance Fox Rescue and Rehabilitation to help the charity treat and care for wild foxes across Gosport.

Other community grants included money for InSync Family Drop In, Rowner Infant School for its forest school, and for new CCTV at Stokes Bay to help keep water users safe.

A heritage grant was also awarded to help restore the Alan Chase stand at Privett Park, home to Gosport Borough Football Club, which is one of the oldest football stands still in use in the country.

In total, the council’s recent Grants Sub Board awarded £107,466 of grants to local projects and good causes.

Gosport Borough Council Leader Cllr Peter Chegwyn said: “Free community events are hugely popular in Gosport, so I am extremely pleased we can support them to run for the enjoyment of families and individuals.

“Charities like Second Chance rely on grants to continue their important work, and it’s so important that we as a council continue to support a variety of projects and good causes which are so important to the Borough.”
