Providing Suitable Social Housing for Older Residents
Fareham Borough Council has launched a public consultation inviting residents to share their views on the draft Later Living Strategy — a key plan for the future of social housing for older people in the Borough.
This strategy outlines how the Council aims to provide high-quality, affordable accommodation for residents aged 55 and over, with onsite support designed to help them maintain independent living for longer. It also explains the application routes available for those seeking this type of housing.
🗣️ Why Your Feedback Matters
The consultation is open until Friday 18 July, and aims to:
-
Ensure the draft strategy is clear and easy to understand
-
Raise awareness of the benefits of later living accommodation
-
Gather local insight to help shape the Council’s approach moving forward

🎙️ Council Comment
Cllr Fred Birkett, Executive Member for Housing, said: The well-being of our older residents is a top priority. This draft strategy sets out how we plan to support those in later life by offering housing that meets their needs while promoting independence and community. I encourage all residents with an interest in older persons’ housing to take part in the consultation and share their views.
