ROTHCO Reveal Stewart Baxter (LIFE) Video For ‘You’re Not The Only One’
Hull newcomers ROTHCO are pleased to reveal the official video for ‘You’re Not The Only One’, the latest track to be taken from their debut EP, Fools Gold, which is out now on Yorkshire incubator label Man Demolish Records.
‘You’re Not the Only One’ is a dark, slow-burn number that draws you into its absorbing, mystical layers before it bursts into life with a dangerous pulse—delightfully malign, you can’t fail to succumb to its irresistible pull.
The official video for the track was filmed by LIFE drummer and fellow Hull native Stewart Baxter at HARI (Hull Artist Research Initiative)—a DIY artist-led organisation, occupying the 1st-floor of an inspirational post-war, post-industrial site.
Of the concept for the video, Baxter says: “Before we made the video, we had a rough mood board for style and approach, but the only thing I knew for sure was that I wanted to film it in a single take—no edits—and to use the HARI space exactly as it was meant to be used: as a place for artist-led exploration. The plan was to respond to the space in real time, improvising once we were all in it.”
“A couple of hours into being there, the full concept clicked — the idea of moving through the space as the track unfolds. I’m really glad we leaned into that, using the layout of the room as a core part of both the choreography and the camera movement. For me, it’s always about getting everyone in the room involved, collaborating, and creating something honest — and having a laugh while we do it.”
“This was a proper team effort. I’m proud of what we achieved on such a small budget, with just a camera and a tripod. As a DIY artist and filmmaker, I genuinely believe that limitations often spark the best ideas. That mix of constraint and adrenaline made this shoot one to remember.”
With a focus on research and experimentation, HARI welcomes artists to explore their subject and material interests, and break down barriers between practitioners and audiences through bespoke discussion and activity opportunities, where knowledge and ideas can be exchanged. HARI is open to artists of all disciplines for residencies, events, exhibitions and interventions.
HARI’s director, Sarah Pennington, said of the shoot: “Enjoying and respecting their work as individual musicians and artists, it was fantastic to have the energy of Rothco, twinned with the imagination of Stew and his team, responding to the light, structure and ambience of HARI’s space. We are thrilled with how they engaged so thoughtfully yet playfully with its physicality to produce a brilliant atmospheric video – and giving an interesting perspective on the process of working in and with the space.”
Fresh from an appearance at Beatherder Festival, the band have also announced a short run of select UK live dates, with Sesh Festival also confirmed – tickets are on sale now, see below for listings.
