Southampton launches 37th annual Toy Appeal

Southampton launches 37th annual Toy Appeal

Last Updated: November 17, 2025By

The countdown to Christmas has begun, and with it comes an opportunity to make a real difference. On Friday 14 November, the Southampton Toy Appeal officially launched at Westquay Shopping Centre, led by Councillor Alex Winning, Leader of Southampton City Council, and Councillor Amanda Barnes-Andrews, Cabinet Member for Children and Learning.

Now in its 37th year, the Toy Appeal continues its mission to bring joy to hundreds of vulnerable children and young people across Southampton. We’re asking for new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children and young people from birth to 18 years old who are supported by Southampton’s Children’s Services, as well as families facing severe financial hardship. If you would like to donate a toy or gift this Christmas, drop off locations such as Westquay and MAST Mayflower Studios have gift labels you can collect and fix to the unwrapped gift before handing it in/popping it into the donation box.

Andy Jackson, Destination Director at Westquay, said:  “We’re delighted to host the Toy Appeal donation drop-off again this year. This initiative means a great deal to our community, and we’re grateful to everyone helping bring joy to local children who need it most this Christmas”.

Where to donate

Drop-off points are open across the city until 4pm on Monday 22 December:

  • Westquay Level Three (next to Auntie Anne’s Pretzels): Daily (9am–8pm)
  • Civic Centre reception desk: Mon–Fri (9.30am–5pm)
  • Libraries: Central, Shirley, Lordshill, Thornhill, Bitterne, Portswood (Mon–Sat, 10am–4pm)
  • Tudor House and Gardens: Mon–Thurs (10am–3pm), Sat–Sun (10am–5pm)
  • Southampton City Art Gallery: Mon–Fri (10am–3pm), Sat (10am–5pm)
  • SeaCity Museum: Daily (10am–5pm)
  • MAST Mayflower Studios: Daily (10am–5pm)
  • The Marlands Shopping Centre information desk: Mon-Fri (9.30am-3.30pm)

If your business would like to get involved, please reach out to Colin McPherson – every contribution counts.

There’s a particular need for gifts for young people aged 12–18, especially boys and young adult males. We’ve created a list of ideas to make choosing easier – search ‘Southampton Toy Appeal’ on the Southampton City Council website for more information. All donations will be collected, sorted, and distributed by volunteers from Southampton City Council and partner organisations, ensuring gifts are delivered in time for Christmas morning.

Councillor Amanda Barnes-Andrews, Cabinet Member for Children and Learning, said: “The Toy Appeal is about more than gifts – it’s about making sure no child or young person feels forgotten at Christmas. For many Southampton families, this time of year is  overwhelming, and a simple act of kindness can bring hope and joy. If you’re able to add an extra gift to your shopping, you’re not just giving a present – you’re generously creating a moment of happiness that could make all the difference to someone’s festive season.”
