The right affordable homes in the right places

The right affordable homes in the right places

Fareham Borough Council has launched a consultation on its revised Affordable Housing Strategy, which sets out how the Council will provide more of the right affordable housing in the right places.

With Fareham experiencing a rising housing need, an ageing population, and continuing affordability pressures, including average house prices 24% above the national average, the Strategy responds to these growing challenges

The refreshed Strategy is structured around three priorities that reflect the pillars of Fareham Housing, as an affordable housing provider and social landlord:

  • High‑quality homes
  • High‑quality support and wellbeing
  • High‑quality advice

This means more than just building homes in a specific location. It is about matching people and their families to the right home that meets their individual needs.

We are asking residents, partners, and other interested parties to give us their views to make sure the Strategy is clear, easy to understand and reflects what matters most to our communities. The consultation will be open until 26 March 2026, and feedback can be shared by completing a short survey: https://online1.snapsurveys.com/ws5hsw

Paper copies are available during opening hours at the Fareham Borough Council Civic Offices.

Executive Member for Housing, Cllr Fred Birkett, said: “This Strategy is an essential step in ensuring that everyone in Fareham has access to a safe, suitable, and genuinely affordable home. It sets out a clear and evidence‑based plan for delivering the right homes in the right places, supporting tenants’ wellbeing, and making it easier for people to understand and access their housing options.”
