Wiltshire Council supports national ‘Rescue Me! Recycle’ campaign
Now in its 22nd year, Recycle Week is the nation’s biggest annual celebration of recycling.
This year’s Rescue Me! Recycle campaign runs from today (22 September) until 28 September and raises awareness of items that end up in the rubbish bin that could have been recycled.
Following the success of last year’s campaign to help save recycling heroes from the rubbish bin, Wiltshire Council has joined with Recycle Now to support this year’s campaign which adds two new recycling heroes.
Shampoo bottles and foil join trigger sprays, aerosols, yoghurt pots and toilet roll tubes from last year in the mission to recycle more missed items.
Residents can follow the council’s social media and sign up to council’s Let’s Sort It newsletter at https://wiltshire.us5.list-
People can also watch a short video from the council’s waste contractor, Hills, on what can be recycled and where it goes at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
Cllr Paul Sample JP, Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate and Waste, said: “Recycle Week shows how much of an impact small changes in our personal behaviour can make to saving the environment for future generations. Everyday items like shampoo bottles, aerosols and foil can all be recycled. Yet too often they end up in the general waste bin. By getting these materials back into the system we can cut waste, save precious resources and save money.”
Catherine David, CEO of WRAP, said: “Recycle Week continues to be a powerful moment to inspire action across the UK, and this year’s ‘Rescue Me! Recycle’ campaign is no exception. By highlighting everyday items like shampoo bottles, foil things — we often overlook — we’re helping people see the real impact of small changes. Thanks to innovation and collaboration, more of these items can now be recycled than ever before. Together with local authorities and communities, we’re making it easier to do the right thing and keep valuable materials in use. Let’s rescue these items from the rubbish and give them a second life.”
