A Wiltshire Police staff member has been nationally recognised for his inspirational achievements and outstanding contributions to the Force.

Luke Newton joined Wiltshire Police in 2016 through the Down’s Syndrome Association’s employment programme Workfit and has worked in the Crime and Communications Centre for nearly a decade. His dedication and accomplishments have earned him a place among the final two nominees for a prestigious award from the British Association for Supported Employment (BASE).

The David Grainger Award is one of the most significant in the sector, and being shortlisted is a major national achievement. It celebrates individuals who have supported their teams by embedding best practice, driving innovation, or demonstrating clear leadership during challenging times.

The BASE Awards honour people with disabilities who inspire others through their work and achievements. Luke’s nomination is a proud moment for both him and Wiltshire Police, highlighting the importance of inclusive employment and the impact of meaningful opportunities.

Luke will discover whether he has won at the awards ceremony at Wembley Stadium, London, this evening (17/11). He will be joined by his family and Scott McPherson, Head of Corporate Communication and Public Engagement and a member of the Chief Officer Group.
