Work progressing well on A350 dualling project in Chippenham

Wiltshire Council’s A350 dualling project in Chippenham is progressing well and the project is on track to be completed in winter 2026.

Work on the project, led by the council’s contractor MJ Church, began in the spring.

Once completed, the project will see the final phases of the transformation of the A350 into a dual carriageway around Chippenham, improving traffic flow and connectivity across the region.

The project received £26.625m from the Department for Transport (DfT), with the council providing the remaining funding to meet the overall £32m cost.

Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, recently visited the site along with Claire Coetzee, Civil Engineering Director at MJ Church, to see the progress so far.

Cllr Smith said: “I was really pleased to visit the site recently and see that the project is progressing well and on track to deliver on time and within budget.

“The A350 is a vital route for Wiltshire and the wider region, and once complete, the dualling will increase capacity, reduce delays, and improve traffic flow – particularly around Bumpers Farm during peak times.”

Claire Coetzee said: “We are delighted that the scheme is progressing well with minimal disruption. As a local business, we are proud to be delivering this flagship infrastructure project for Wiltshire, a trusted client partner.

“MJ Church is embedded within the local community with a significant proportion of our workforce living in the region; the A350 has further enabled our business to offer more social value projects, building on our existing sustainability strategy to enhance local prosperity.”

This project constitutes Phases 4 and 5 of the overall scheme to dual the A350 around Chippenham. It will upgrade the remaining single carriageway sections and improve the Bumpers Farm roundabout.

These enhancements will improve access to the Bumpers Farm industrial estate, reduce congestion, and shorten journey times on this key north-south route linking the M4 to the south coast.
