Appeal for witnesses following serious assault in Southampton

Officers investigating a serious assault in Southampton last night (Monday 7 July) are appealing for witnesses.

We were called at around 11:30pm, to a report of an altercation happening in Gatwick Close.

During the incident, a man in his 20s suffered a stab wound to his back, and was subsequently taken to hospital. His injuries were confirmed not to be life-threatening or life-changing, and he has since been discharged from hospital.

A 20-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, he remains in custody at this time.

A second victim — a woman in her 30s — was also struck over the head with a glass bottle during the incident. Fortunately, she did not sustain serious injuries or require hospital treatment.

An 18-year-old woman from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in connection with this. She also remains in custody at this time.

Enquires are ongoing today, and officers have been in the area. We are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any information about it to please come forward.
